Free Pattern – Man Hands!
ByA few years ago I tried to knit a pair of fingerless mitts for a workmate, but to my eternal shame it got lost in the shuffle of other knitting projects and the joke of ‘hey, when are you gonna get Ben those mitts?’ was born.
It took me a while, (and the office collectively enjoyed much mocking) but I finally got Ben’s mitts together last Christmas. I not only got him mitts, I wrote him his own pattern and then whipped off a pair for Tito to test-drive it.
Man Hands. Easy and quick, these simple gloves have just enough pattern to keep you from going batty but are simple enough for dudes to rock without complaining. The waffle stitch pattern is super warm and can show off a variety of yarns. Instructions are given in the pattern for either knitting a basic pair or customizing them exactly to your recipients hands.
They take one skein of worsted weight yarn. Samples shown are Tanis Fiber Arts Green Label Aran and Madeline Tosh MCN Merino. As with the man-slouch these are totally free :) Ravelry project page here!
Looks great! Love both the gloves and the pictures :-)

Question about the pattern: the waffle pattern has five rows which repeat but the thumb gusset section appears to have only four. How do you maintain the consistency of the pattern? I’m a beginning knitter but I feel like I’m missing something here. Thanks!

Hi there! I’m unsure what you mean, inside the markers for the thumb gusset I’ve just got plain ole’ stockinette stitch, no patterning at all :) Hope that helps!

Hi, I really like your pattern for this mittens. But I’m afraid they hacked your link to the pattern. I’m getting everytime advertisements, and they direct me to other (spam) sites…. Can I receive the pattern in an other way? Thanks for your reply!!

It says they cost ~$5. I thought they were supposed to be free?

Carol here, the pattern was few for quite some time. We had a long discussion with another designer about free patterns and how it devalues their work, and we agreed. I’m sorry you missed out on it. Please forgive us
