Project 4 – Using resin molds, the ‘Ice Cube’ Pendant
ByWelcome to the fourth of 5 blog posts that feature the projects and skills in my new book – Resin Jewelry, available for purchase Wednesday Sept 18th! To celebrate, I’m giving away 2 copies of the book on Wednesday. Entering your name is simple–just leave a comment on this post, or the next one, telling me what you’d love to do with resin!
Resin molds come in silicone and plastic, and offer a huge variety of creative options. This project takes you through using a resin mold to create a clear pendant with baby’s breath flowers inside. I also take you through how to attach hanging hardware. Projects in the inspiration gallery cover more hanging options, combining a mold with multiple pours and adding a textured background. Check out the inspiration gallery of work I’ve done with resin molds!
These just keep getting better and better! Is that bottom right one a different kind of flower or paper too? It made me wonder if there’s such a thing as coloured resin, and if you’ve ever played with that too…

Hey Brooke! That one is made from red flowers – I’m glad you like em :) There is indeed coloured resin – but not in jewellery-grade. I prefer to add pigment when needed to my jewellery grade resin so I can get the effects without compromising the quality. Having said that, none of the pieces here are using pigment :)

If you just want a red heart let’s say- Then I use finger nail polish. If you’re looking for something to go around a picture or whatever then powder usually works!

Honestly I would like to try every technique that you have shown so far on this blog. Your book looks like it will be a great introduction to resin jewelry techniques. Now every time I walk on Mont Royal or think of my upcoming trip to Japan I think of all the autumn maple leaves or origami paper that would make beautiful jewelry!

I have never made anything with resin. I want to learn how to make resin jewelry because I have a couple of fall family weddings. I make and design jewelry but have never worked with resin. I would love to surprise my family with a gift made out of the flowers from the wedding. I want to make pendants and bracelets with the flowers but, I don’t know where to start. Can you help me?

Hi Kit – For sure! Are the flowers already dried and preserved? I recommend reading my book for an easy how-to that starts off simple and develops your skill from there: https://thebluebrick.ca/resin-jewelry-the-book/ I don’t mean to sound like I’m shamelessly self-promoting, but that’s a much more comprehensive overview than I would be able to give in an email :) Please let me know if that helps, and feel free to write to me with any questions!

So I have tried putting flowers in resin and they ALWAYS turn green and icky. Do you have any tips for making them keep their color?

Also if you could hang the earrings they might show us better detail. I imagine photos do not do your pieces justice.

Recently I went into small store selling resin pendants. They has different flower elements such as rose petals, lavender buds, etc. They each has a little note explaining what the flower petals effects were. Such as the lavender has calming effects. I fell in love with them. They were just gorgeous. I have net made anything with resin and would love to try this new found work of art.
