Searching for the Perfect Pattern – A Contest!

What to do with 500 yards of tonal yarns? What if I add another 500 yards in a neutral palette? I’m looking for the perfect pattern to show off my new Painter Palette line, and I need my knitters to weigh in!
I’ve put together a few sample combos to show off how my neutrals and palettes could be paired, and I’m looking for the perfect pattern suggestion. The winner will get a Painter Palette kit in my Killarney sock, in their choice of colours! All you have to do is leave a comment on this page letting me know what pattern you think would work (something with 3-5 colours is ideal), then share the contest on your Facebook, and blog for additional entries (be sure to let me know you did!)
Below are some of my ideas for combos, but no need to stick to what I’ve done :) Shawls and sweaters… everything is kosher as long as it’s either fingering or sport weight.
Raincloud and Mt Fuji. 
Charcoal and Monarch
Ecru and Eggshell
Jade and Sundown
The Blue Brick | Inspired Yarns

I would chose either Clincher ( I have made 3 so far), it’s perfect for gradient yarns, the side loops would look smashing in any one of the palettes or Brush Creek Shawl ( similar to Zuzu’s Petals, made 6 of them) or Sunset Park. The patterns are easy enough for a beginner, yet satisfying for a knitter with a higher skill level

I was just looking at Melanie Berg’s The Joker and the Thief pattern (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-joker-and-the-thief) yesterday, and I think that the Charcoal/Monarch combination would be superb with it. A Bounce blanket by TinCanKnits. You could use any of those palettes. They would all be soooo beautiful :) I don’t see Bounce just as a baby blanket – it would be a gorgeous throw for an adult, too!

Patterns that use gradients! My favourite! My absolute top Number 1 pick is:
Stripe Study Shawl (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stripe-study-shawl).
It’s simple, it’s elegant, and it’s gorgeous when knit with a gradient. Because the shape is the feature it doesn’t draw away from the colours, it enhances them. I think one would be stunning in a Jade or Charcoal with the Sundown set. Or Raincloud and Monarch!

I found a few patterns that would work great:
– Moonraker (Melanie Berg) takes about 1000 yards in 4 colors
– joker and the theif (Melanie Berg) also uses about 1000 yards
– Andrea’s shawl (Kristen kapur) uses a smaller yardage, 350-700, but offers a lot of color opportunity with the striping
– dot shawl (casapinka) uses about 900 yards and would show off the beautiful gradients of the accent colors

It makes for a really beautiful canvas for gradients/palette sets. It’s so huge and huggable, and so simple to create. It’s simplicity makes it a great piece for showcasing yarns.

There are some beautiful patterns, and that yarn is gorgeous! Both on its own and together. The pairings are endless which is why I think the Inara Wrap would be amazing to show off both! From light to dark gradient-like color choices to just all the fun you would have in seeing the pattern unfold.. It would be my choice (if I wasn’t using one of your other lovely gradient yarns which I am saving up to do this pattern with.)

I’d like to try a shawl or wrap with ridges separating different sections. Each section could have a different colour. I have been considering Stephen West’s Exploration Station shawl for this and also considering his Boneyard Shawl with some modifications.

I don’t yet knit, but there are some beautiful projects that could be crocheted with your very beautiful yarns. Two that I’ve found are the Monsoon Stole by Alia Bland. I specifically like the project on Ravelry completed by clantabby. I also love Patty’s Wrap by Julie Blagojevich. I hope these still qualify me. :-)

Like some others who commented, I have a love affair with ALL of Melanie Berg’s shawl designs – Tamdou, Ropedance, Joker & the thief, Rheinlust, Mirkfallon, etc. – that are all well suited gradients or color combos (even the plain ones), but there’s a few other patterns I hold a soft spot for like Laura Chau’s Dipped Infinity scarf, Mindy Wilkes’s Holden and the seashore sweater that are all a perfect canvas for gradient yarns.
